I hadn't had a cigarette for 15 months but I'd eaten a lot of pies & drunk a few gallons of wine. An extensive wardrobe was untouched as my only options were a couple of very large black kaftans. I'd read blogs, articles and books but it was all about giving everything up – no sugar, no this, no that, no alcohol, no life. All that did was bring out the teenage rebel in me – tell me not to do something & I'll do it 10 times over!
I haven't lost all of the weight but I'm half way there and it has been pretty easy. Sounds a bit like a miracle diet plan but is really the opposite. Camilla is realistic and looks at things holistically. Drink vodka soda not wine – hardly difficult but makes a massive difference – a conscious, positive, choice (and still enjoyable). Instead of thinking about yoga, running, swimming, weights, boxing etc and doing none she suggested walking a few evenings a week then a dip in the ocean. Err OK then – not exactly a hardship.
In a matter of weeks I'd made achievable changes to diet and lifestyle but more importantly my attitude had changed. I can do this, it isn't horrible, in fact it is great – really rewarding. I've even signed up to city2surf this year.
he single most important thing that Camilla has taught me is the concept of balance.
I don’t believe that I have ever been on a diet in my life nor ever will. I am certainly not overweight but my body has ways of telling me that it is time to tip the scales the other way and now that Camilla has helped me to see these signs I tend to act upon them better.
I love Guinness, heavy food and Red Wine. I always will, but these things taste so much better having spent a week or maybe two avoiding them. I don’t miss a glass of red in the evening, I will have a cup of tea with a chocolate hobnob instead of the alcohol.
I have never been the most adventurous with my diet but the food that we eat at home is healthy, colourful, incredibly tasty and has good provenance. When we cook, we always have no shortage of friends wanting to join our table and the recipes are so simple it is difficult to mess them up!
Camilla has also shown me how to keep my energy levels up through supplementing my body before and after exercise. I no longer feel like I am draining my body. Instead I just try to keep my levels high and my body balanced.
Living a healthy life, respecting your body and treating yourself how you deserve to be treated will result in happiness, wellbeing and loving your body.
